SVPD POLICE MOTORCYCLES

The Scotts Valley Police Department has a total of four police motorcycles. Three of the motorcycles are BMW R1200 RT-P's and one Kawasaki 1000.

The BMW's are our main patrol motorcycle and are used daily by the departments traffic officers.

The BMW's are equipped with police markings, radios and sirens. The BMW's are primary tool for a traffic officer because they can maneuver through traffic easier and decrease responses to traffic incidents. They are also easy to maneuver through congested traffic lanes and areas that patrol cars are unable to reach. This is the primary reason these vehicles are used for traffic enforcement.

Officers who ride attend a two week intensive motorcycle training course where they develop the skills needed to safely and effectively work the streets of Scotts Valley. The training consists of on and off road skills which maximize the motorcycles capabilities and officers become more proficient riders.
