POLICE INVESTIGATIONS UNIT

The Investigations Unit consists of an adult detective, a juvenile detective, a CSO (community services officer), a narcotics officer, a school resource officer, and an investigations sergeant.

The adult detective works all types of crimes including homicides, robberies, high technology crimes, background investigations, burglaries, vice and sex crimes. The adult detective also assists in narcotics investigations including working undercover operations as needed.

The juvenile detective is in charge of our DARE program and also investigates all crimes involving juveniles including kidnapping, sex crimes, child abuse and molests, criminal gang activity, and burglaries. The juvenile detective is also in charge of our PAL Junior Police Academy which involves summer activities for Scotts Valley youth.

The CSO (community services officer) assists the juvenile detective with various assignments including coordinating the DARE program activities, various crime-prevention programs, scheduling and conducting juvenile diversions, department tours, and numerous programs in the school and community.

The narcotics officer is assigned to the Santa Cruz County Narcotics Task Force (SCCNET). This investigator works narcotics crimes throughout the county including surveillance, undercover drug buys, serving search warrants, and working with state and federal narcotics units.

The school resource officer is assigned to Scotts Valley High School and works closely with the juvenile detective. This officer has many duties such as criminal investigations, traffic control, juvenile diversions, campus security, teaching DARE, and liaison between school, police, and the community.

The investigations sergeant supervises the Investigations Unit, assigns cases as appropriate, coordinates major case investigations, assists with the investigation of major crimes, and assists the other members of the unit as needed.
