Foot Patrol
Scotts Valley Police Officers have always done
foot patrols in heavily populated areas such as shopping centers,
business districts, and schools. Officers can get a different perspective
by getting out of their cars and walking down the sidewalk, street,
or campus hallway. Officers "walk a beat" to become familiar
with their surroundings and the people in it. They are more approachable
to citizens with questions or problems. Officers also contact merchants
to discuss how to improve security. Foot patrols increase officer
presence in the community, which can often be a powerful deterrent
to criminal activity.
